SIKESTON, MO (KFVS) - The Sikeston Department of Public Safety chief wants to replace two aging fire trucks.

Sikeston DPS Chief Drew Juden addressed the Sikeston City Council on Monday about acquiring two new fire trucks worth more than $1 million.

Sikeston DPS currently has a 1990 engine fire truck which Juden says needs to be replaced. Juden says it is hard to get parts due to its age. This truck is part of the reserves unit, but still is one of their primary apparatuses. The replacement for this truck is an estimated $334,350.

The other is a 1993 ladder truck. This truck is in the front line of service and was in the repair shop on Monday. Juden says soon they won't be able to get any parts for it if they continue to use it. The estimated cost for replacement for this truck is $698,998. Replacing both trucks comes out to an estimated $1,033,348.

Juden feels it is in the best interest of the city to replace the trucks now, especially now since the 1993 ladder truck is still able to be used in service as of now.

Juden says the department is willing to sell the two older model fire trucks. He believes they may be able to get $150,000 for selling ladder truck to help offset the cost of the new trucks.

Juden says the ideal situation is to have the trucks sold, delivered to the seller and the new trucks acquired by July 2015.

The council will hear the bid and vote on this next week.
