Heartland athlete has sights set on 2016 Paralympics

CAPE GIRARDEAU COUNTY, MO (KFVS) - We introduced you to Zach Young about a year ago when he competed in his first ever triathlon. Well, now he's got a new even bigger goal to make the 2016 USA Paralympic team.

"It was just one of those days where the training came together," Young said. "I finished in 1st place on a national level so it felt great crossing the finish line."

That was just last week in Tempe, Arizona. Young said he has been training six days a week for a while now.

"I think God instills in us that we have no limits with him anything is possible," Young said.

Young said its taken him a lot of hard work to get to this point but he's got much more to do.

"I'll be shooting for the gold," Young said.

In order for him to place on the podium in an international competition, he needs to trim about five minutes off his time. He believes it can be done.

Young will compete in Brazil at the beginning of October in an international competition.
