1 sent to hospital after crash involving funeral procession

A Ledbetter, Kentucky woman was sent to the hospital after a crash on U.S. 60/Ledbetter Bridge on Sept. 25.

According to the McCracken County Sheriff's Department, at 11:55 a.m. they responded to a crash involving cars in a funeral procession.

They say the last several cars in the funeral procession slowed to a near stop. As 59-year-old Roxanna Wilkins of Ledbetter was going eastbound on the bridge she was distracted by a motorcycle escorting the procession.

Deputies say she did not realize the procession has slowed and she drove her 2008 Pontiac into the rear of a 2015 Chevrolet pickup driven by 40-year-old Mathew Whitaker from Nebo, Ky. They say he was the last vehicle in the procession.

Wilkins was taken to a Paducah hospital by ambulance to be checked for injury.

The sheriff's department said one eastbound lane on the bridge was closed for about 30 minutes due to the crash.
