Some prescription drug take back events were held in the Heartland on Saturday, September 27.

The Saline County Sheriff's Office said residents from all across the county dropped off a total of 98.5 pounds of prescription medication that was unused or out of date.

"On average we take nearly 100 pounds of prescription medications, each time we hold an event," Sheriff Keith Brown said.

The Saline County Sheriff's Office said this is the last year they will be participating in the Prescription Drug Take Back event because the law changed. It now allows hospitals and pharmacies to take the expired or unused medications.

The Jackson and Carbondale Police Departments also participated.

The service was free and anonymous.
