Jackson Co. Health Dept. to provide flu vaccine

JACKSON COUNTY, IL (KFVS) - Beginning Monday, Sept. 29 and running through Oct. 31, the Jackson County Health Department will be offering flu vaccinations on a walk-in basis.

This service is available Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., and on Thursdays from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. All standard doses are $35. 

Other locations providing the flu vaccine are the Carbondale Senior Adult Services facility on Friday, Oct. 17 from 9 a.m. to noon, and the SIUC Student and Recreation Center (available only to state employees and families) Oct. 21 and 24 from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. 

Flu vaccinations are free to members of Medicare B and Medicaid upon presentation of the relevant insurance card. The health department will also accept most insurance coverage, including Health Link, Health Alliance, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Cigna, Aetna, Coventry and Humana. For those that don't have valid or billable insurance, vaccinations may be paid for by cash or check. 

Flu vaccinations are recommended for everyone over 6 months old. It not only protects you during flu season, it helps prevent the spread of the flu virus.
