Investigation underway in Dexter after vehicle flees from police

DEXTER, MO (AP) -

Dexter Police are searching for a suspect who fled from the scene of an attempted traffic stop early Thursday morning.

According to the police department, around 1:15 a.m. officers saw a car driving erratically south on Catalpa Street.

When officers tried to stop the vehicle, the driver led police on a chase through town. The driver eventually stopped and then fled on foot.

The suspect, described as a white male with dark hair, wearing a black, sleeveless shirt and jeans, was able to get away.

Police say it was later discovered that the car the suspect was driving had been stolen from an auto repair shop in Kennett. Police say it was reported stolen on Sept. 24 and was believed to have been taken between Sept. 23 at 5 p.m. and Sept. 24 at 8 a.m.

The investigation is ongoing.
