PADUCAH, KY (KFVS) - Police say a Paducah man is dead after being found in the road with gunshot wound late Tuesday night.

It happened in the 1300 block of Burnett Street.

According to police, an officer was flagged down by a passerby, who said a man was apparently drunk and lying in the roadway.

At the scene, the officer found the man had an apparent gunshot wound to his chest. Officers then began CPR on the man.
Nathaniel Cody, 34, of Paducah, was taken to Baptist Health Paducah where he was pronounced dead.

An autopsy was performed Wednesday morning at the Regional Crime Lab in Madisonville, Kentucky.

Police were interviewing witnesses and gathering evidence Wednesday. There was no suspect in custody as of early Wednesday evening.

The victim's cousin is still in shock.

"He always liked to laugh, he was a people person," said Lavar Dillion, the victim's cousin. "We've all had our ups and downs, you know, but he was just a good guy all-around, man. He was a good friend ... someone I'm going to miss."
