Fire rekindles overnight at vacant Cape Girardeau home

CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) -

A fire at a vacant home in Cape Girardeau appears to have rekindled overnight.

According to the Cape Girardeau Fire Department, the call for a fire at 327 South Hanover cam in just before 10 p.m. Tuesday.

When crews got the scene, the home was about 30 percent involved, according to officials, and the fire was under control in 30 to 45 minutes.

Jackson and Scott City fire departments were called to the scene for mutual aid.

The home sustained extensive damage, according to the Cape Girardeau Fire Department.

Then, around 3 a.m. Wednesday, the fire at the home appeared to rekindle, according to the Cape Girardeau fire chief. 

According to our crew on the scene, the fire was out within a few minutes of rekindling.

The fire marshal is expected on scene sometime Wednesday to investigate. A cause is still unknown.
