Cape Girardeau voters' forum scheduled for Tuesday

CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) -

The League of Women Voters of Southeast Missouri and KRCU Radio are sponsoring a voters' forum Tuesday night in Cape Girardeau.

Held at the Concourse Building on Broadview, the forum is designed to educate local voters about candidates and issues that will appear on the November ballot.

Janice Miller, treasurer for the League of Women Voters of Southeast Missouri, says it's very important for voters to understand what they're doing when they cast a ballot.

"We want people not just to register to vote, but to...know how to vote, and how they feel about the issues and about the candidates. And they can find out information by coming to our forums."

Miller also says this is not only a benefit for voters but for the community as a whole. "We sponsor it because we have several missions and one of our most important missions is educating and having informed voters and that will eventually make us a better community," according to Miller.

The forum runs from 7 to 9 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 23 and the public is encouraged to attend.
