THOUSAND OAKS, CA (CNN) - Animal control officers are searching for a cobra that's on the loose in Thousand Oaks, CA - northwest of Los Angeles.

The albino monocled cobra slithered away Wednesday after biting a dog.

Families are warned not to let their children play near animal burrows, pipes or culverts where snakes may hide.

A rattlesnake wrangler says the cobra can be quick to strike.

“They don't want to have anything to do with us but if we scare it, startle it, step on it, yeah, it will bite us,” said Bo Slyapich.

Wildlife officials say the snake is extremely dangerous, and their bite can be deadly.

The dog that was bitten is expected to be okay.
