ST. ALBANS, VT (WCAX/CNN) – Police received a tip about a strange plant growing behind a Walmart store.

It turns out, the mysterious plants were 27 cultivated marijuana plants, some 6-feet tall. Since the discovery, the plants have been pulled from the ground and destroyed.

Police say some of the plants were worth as much as $900 each. The plants were grown on someone else's private property.

If caught, the suspect faces charges of cultivating marijuana and unlawful trespass.

Police say a find in a busy place like this isn't so unusual, and they are following up on leads.

No arrests have been made.

“I think the general public though would be a little surprised, but it's not unusual that they do it somewhere where they can come and go and there's a lot of people coming and going, and maybe [it's] hard to be noticed,” St. Albans, VA Police Chief Gary Taylor said.
