MURPHSYBORO, IL (KFVS) -

The Murphysboro Fire Department responded to two fires minutes apart on Sunday, Aug. 31.

According to Murphysboro Fire Chief Ron Clark, fire fighters were called out to a structure fire at 2:08 p.m. to a home on Spruce Street on Sunday afternoon.

Three minutes later, fire fighters were called for another fire at a home on Clay Street.

Both fires had minimal damage. The fire on Spruce St. was a person cooking on their stove and when fire fighters arrived on scene they found a melted pot on the stove.

Fire fighters unplugged everything and made sure any elements of a fire were out.

The second fire on Clay St. was an electrical fire that is believed to have started around a receptacle.

Fire spread through the wall and caused some minor damage to the wall above the outlet where the fire originated. Minor smoke damage was also reported in the home.
