EXCELSIOR SPRINGS, MO (KCTV) -

Authorities canceled an Amber Alert after a 3-year-old taken from her Excelsior Springs home was found safe in the Westport area Wednesday night.

The toddler was found with her mother, according to the Excelsior Springs Police Department. Police say the FBI has the biological mother in custody.

Ramy Demboski went missing about 4 p.m. Authorities initially didn't issue an Amber Alert because they thought the girl was taken as part of a custody dispute.

An Amber Alert was issued just before 6 p.m. Authorities didn't say why they decided to issue one then.

Emotional family members had begged for the safe return of Ramy.

Capt. Clint Reno of the Excelsior Springs Police Department said officers were called to the 100 block of Persimmon Drive about 4 p.m.

Reno said there was a custody dispute involving the child.

Officers were seeking a silver Dodge Charger with Nebraska plates, which was being driven by a black woman. Reno said officers believe there were two other children in the vehicle.

The child's father, Travis Nave, was at work. The stepmother, Paulina Nave, and her friend, Kayleigh Mooney, were at the home with Ramy and Mooney's two children when a black woman knocked at the door.

The woman said her car had broken down. She asked for water and that her daughter use the bathroom. After doing so, the woman and the child returned to wait in the car parked outside the house.

Just before 4 p.m., Mooney took water and Popsicles out to the woman and the children. The woman declined the water and Mooney headed into the kitchen to pour out the water. When she returned, Ramy was gone.

Nave and Mooney as well as Ramy's father desperately pleaded for answers. While neither woman recognized the woman in the Charger they believe she was connected to Ramy's mother. They said otherwise why would Ramy disappear and the other two children inside the house be OK.

The child's father was at work when his daughter went missing. The distraught man rushed home.

He and Nave had been involved in a custody dispute with Ramy's mother, saying Amy Demboski has been in and out of jail.

The mother does have numerous charges in Missouri including a drug-related arrest in June. Reno did not say what led officers to Amy Demboski.
