Western Egyptian to provide assistance with winter heating costs

Posted: Updated:
STEELEVILLE, IL (KFVS) - Starting on September 2, 2014, the elderly and disabled residents in Jackson, Perry, Randolph and Monroe counties will be able to apply for a home heating grant through Western Egyptian's "Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program" (LIHEAP).

In October, households with a child under the age of six may apply in addition to households that are disconnected from their utility source. Open enrollment for all income eligible households will begin in November.

Benefits of eligible participants will be paid directly to the household's appropriate utility company or fuel source vendor such as electric, natural gas, propane, oil, and wood.

LIHEAP is a state and federally funded energy assistance program that offers aid to households with incomes up to 150 percent of the federal poverty level.

For more information about income eligibility and program guidelines visit www.weeoc.org or www.liheapillinois.com.
