EAST PRAIRIE, MO (KFVS) -

A Mississippi County, Missouri man is facing assault and drug charges following an assault during the East Prairie High School football game, according to the sheriff's office.

James Casey Holman, 28, of East Prairie, Missouri, was charged with endangering the welfare of a child first degree, assault while on school property and was cited for possession of up to 35 Grams of marijuana and unlawful use of drug paraphernalia.

At the game's halftime on Friday, Aug. 22, James Casey Holman assaulted another man as he walked down the aisle in front of the bleachers, according to the sheriff's office.

Mississippi Co. Deputy Cory Hutcheson, and others in the stands, separated the men. Holman was taken into custody and booked into jail.

According to the deputy's report, as Holman was removed from school property, he was found with marijuana and a pipe, which he told officers was for the marijuana.

The deputy and an East Prairie school resource officer got interviews with a number of witnesses who verified the victim's account of the incident.

Investigators later learned the altercation had come close to several young children, and caused them to become so frightened that some left the game in tears.

Deputy Hutcheson videotaped an interview with Holman, and had probable cause to believe Holman had initiated the assault.

“EPHS athletic events are a source of great pride and entertainment for our community, and this type of behavior places fans in danger and distracts them from the purpose of the game,” Sheriff Keith Moore said. “Fortunately, Deputy Hutcheson and those who helped him stopped the assault before anyone was badly injured.”

Holman was booked into the Mississippi County Detention Center with bond set at $25,000.
