JACKSON, MO (KFVS) -

The Jackson High School Indians hosted its first football game of the season against the Battle High School Spartans.

The first quarter of the game was neck and neck.

Jackson scored the first touchdown of the game.

The Spartans returned the favor the next play, running it into the end zone. However, they missed the extra point.

The game continued to go back and forth until about the middle of the second quarter.

Jackson scored twice before the half leaving them up 35 to 20.

Brian Kurre graduated from Jackson High School in 1990 and said he tries to make it to every football game.

Kurre said with this being the home opener, "... It's going to have its ups and downs."

Other Jackson fans are hopeful for the rest of the season.

"I think this will be the year," former Jackson football player Choya Mccafferty said.

After the half, Jackson came out strong, scoring multiple times.

This is only the second year Battle High School had a football team and the first year they get to play in class 5.

Parents of the Spartan players said the team is looking good this year.

"I can't wait for them to come together," Rodney Johnson said.

Jackson heads to Vianney next week for its second game.
