Murphysboro man to be inducted into barbeque hall of fame

MURPHYSBORO, IL (KFVS) -

A southern Illinois man is making headlines for landing a big honor.

Pat Burke of Murphysboro will be inducted into the National Barbeque Hall of Fame in Kansas City, Missouri this October.

Burke is the owner of Pats BBQ and is a founder of 17th Street Bar & Grill.

He is a veteran of barbeque competitions winning hundred of trophies and 185 grand Championships.

Burke says being entered into the hall of fame is a huge honor.

"You know this is a great feeling on the thing," Burke said. "I've got a lot of awards over 25 years of cooking but this year is probably one of the greatest though because there's only been three pit masters into the Hall of Fame, and I'm the third one on this thing. And you're voted in by your own peers on this too so it's a big deal for me."

Burke has been competing since 1989 when he helped form the Apple City Barbecue competition team.
