POPLAR BLUFF, MO (KFVS) - A Poplar Bluff High School football player who collapsed during the first day of practice on Aug. 4 will be released from the hospital just in time for the first day of school on Aug. 14.

Family members say Caleb Morrow, 15, had to have corrective surgery for a heart condition.

Caleb collapsed in the first 20 minutes of practice.

Family members released the following statement about Caleb.

"We really appreciate the community and church for coming out and praying. It means a lot to our family. Please continue.

This was not football related or heat related. He had an unknown heart condition. We're thankful this happened in a place where professionals could help. It was a matter of time when it was going to happen. We appreciate the quick response from the athletic trainer and coaches. They saved his life.

He'll be back to 100 percent, playing football if he chooses, with a healthy heart.

Again, we're just appreciative for the community, and God's will."

On Aug. 12, a message was posted on the Poplar Bluff Schools Facebook page.

"Superintendent Chris Hon just received word from Cardinal Glennon in St. Louis that PBHS student Caleb Morrow is doing extremely well and will be discharged from the children's hospital today. Thanks again for the quick action from all those involved. We can't wait to welcome Caleb back to school!"
