INDIANAPOLIS (WISH/CBS) - A teenager who knows what it's like to get picked on developed an app designed to make reporting and catching bullies easier.

Pendleton High School student Brandon Boynton spent nine months creating The BullyBox, and he's finally seeing his hard work put to good use.

"I struggled with being bullied in the eighth grade, and since then I've had a real passion for anti-bullying," Boynton said. "I want to try to make a difference."

Whether they're the victim or the witness, students can report abuse anonymously and send screen shots of cyberbullying directly to an administrator.

"It's critical because students are not going report it if they have to identify themselves," said Lynn Staley, Liberty Christian Superintendent. "That's too risky, and that is not going to happen."

The app also allows districts to select key words like suicide, bomb and kill. Once chosen, The BullyBox detects when those key words show up in a report.

That signals an automated call to be dialed straight to the principal's phone.

"It makes it simple, it's easy to use, you can use it on all technology, it's anonymous," Lynn said. "Why wouldn't we want to do that."

It can be downloaded through the Apple App Store and Google Play.
