Big Island raises legal smoking age to 21

Posted: Updated:
BIG ISLAND (HawaiiNewsNow) - As of Tuesday, Hawaii County becomes the first in the state to raise the legal smoking age to 21.

Underage smokers will not be cited, but the retailers will. Fines range from $500 to $2,000, and store owners are required to post new signs about the age change.

Those who are currently aged 18 to 20 will be grandfathered in.
