CHICAGO (AP) - A gunman firing from a minivan shot and injured a teenage boy about a block from the Rainbow PUSH Coalition headquarters in Chicago while the Rev. Jesse Jackson was holding a town hall meeting.
Jackson tells the Chicago Sun-Times (http://bit.ly/1q0IDMM ) he rushed outside as paramedics were putting the 17-year-old boy on a stretcher.
Police say the teen was struck in the back as he was walking in the area around 7:30 p.m. Friday. He was hospitalized in critical condition.
Jackson sought to comfort distressed children near the site of the shooting and later visited to the hospital.
Jackson tells the newspaper "it hurts to see so many young children traumatized and scared and crying."
