Man injured in bulldozer accident at landfill

Posted: Updated:

A Benton, Kentucky man was driving a bulldozer on landfill property when deputies say he went over the edge of a ravine.

According to Sheriff Dewayne Redmon, on Tuesday, June 24 at 8:03 p.m. deputies responded to the West Kentucky Landfill located on U.S. 45 South for a man who was involved in a bulldozer accident. The man was later identified as 53-year-old Dennis Dismore.

Deputies say Dismore was driving the bulldozer when it went over the edge of a ravine while he was pushing trash. The bulldozer rolled several times to the bottom of the ravine and Dismore was thrown from the bulldozer but was able to call 911 for help. They say he had serious head injuries.

Sheriff's office deputies and Mayfield/Graves County EMS personnel found Dismore about 300 feet down the ravine. The Mayfield/Graves County Rescue Squad was also notified to help with the loading and transport. As more personnel arrived, Dismore was loaded onto a basket and carried up the side of the ravine to a waiting ambulance.

Deputies say a medical helicopter was called to the scene to help transport Dismore. They arrived at a landing zone that was set and Dismore was flown to a Nashville, Tenn. hospital.
