(CNN) - The Senate is set to take up a new bill aimed at the short-term health care needs of veterans caught in the recent scandal.
A federal investigation found that some 1,700 veterans in need of care were "at risk of being lost or forgotten."
The Wall Street Journal reports that the bill would allow veterans facing long delays, to get care outside the VA system, at private doctors' offices, health centers, or military bases.
