(NSA/CNN) – The National Security Agency has released an email to challenge Edward Snowden's claim of whistleblowing.
In an interview with NBC News, Snowden claimed he raised concerns about the intelligence agency to the general counsel's office.
However, the email shows that he only asked for clarification about training he was supposed to receive about interpreting executive orders and federal laws.
The general counsel's office responded to Snowden's email and encouraged him to call to discuss the matter further.
In the interview, Snowden claims he was essentially told to "stop asking questions."
The NSA released a statement on Thursday, saying that the email was the only communication found and there was no evidence that Snowden followed up.
