PHOENIX (CBS5) -

At least one Valley student said she was out of hundreds of dollars last week when her prom was sold out.

Desert Edge High School senior D'Kiya Johnson said when she spoke to CBS 5 about the prom mishap, the school responded by suspending her, which prohibited her from getting a ticket.

"I felt as if my senior year was a waste," Johnson said. "I had been waiting [all year] for that moment."

A week after the school's official prom, a Valley restaurant threw a second prom for students who either couldn't get a ticket or weren't allowed to go. This time, it wasn't sold out.

"I'm really thankful that someone was able to take their time out and put together something like this for me and my friends," Johnson said.

It's an airport by day, but after the sunset Demitri Papamatheakis turned the tarmac at Deer Valley Airport into a dance floor.

"A bunch of kids just couldn't go to prom because of sold-out tickets, it's just not fair," Papamatheakis said.

Papamatheakis heard about what happened to some students at Desert Edge High School and decided to throw another prom for Johnson and her friends.

"I'm just glad I could be a part of it," Papamatheakis said. "I'm glad [I could] make it happen for them."

Under the stars and the blinking airplane lights, Johnson and her friends finally got their prom.

"I'm going to take a lot of pictures and make a lot of memories," Johnson said.

The entire event was put together by donations. From the DJ to the photographers and food, Papamatheakis said it was all donated to make at least one Valley high school senior's perfect prom night.
