Lightning strikes home in West Frankfort

Lightning was the cause of an early morning house fire in West Frankfort.

The West Frankfort fire department responded to this home Monday just after 3 along Avery Road.

A husband and wife and their two dogs made it out unharmed, but a firefighter was taken to a hospital after becoming overheated.

He was later released.

The fire chief says it took three hours to put out the flames.

The house suffered major damage to the back half, including a bedroom hallway and attic.
