LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) - The Belle of Louisville is celebrating her 100th birthday this year and is getting a special birthday present from a Louisville machine repair company.
Atlas Machine & Supply Inc. is restoring the Belle's steam engines, and Atlas President Rich Gimmel told WDRB-TV (http://bit.ly/1hwl24N ) it's believed to be the first time the engines have been rebuilt.
Gimmel says the project has cost a bit more than expected, more than $50,000, but that it was fun.
Gimmel says when the work is finished, the engines will be more efficient, with more power going to the paddlewheel.
A ceremony Tuesday will mark the installation of the rebuilt engines.
