(CNN) - A cybersecurity breach at the University of Maryland has compromised the records of more than 300,000 faculty, staff and students.
University President Wallace Loh sent out a letter saying the school was the "victim of a sophisticated computer security attack."
Loh said records containing personal information dating back to 1998, including Social Security numbers, were exposed.
The university is offering one year of free credit monitoring to everyone who is impacted by the breach.
