BLYTHEVILLE, AR (KAIT) - Poor road conditions have stranded hundreds of motorists in Region 8. Most, along I-55 in Mississippi County. "We were all the way in Missouri on foot just walking," Shondra Wright
Roughly 50 Region 8 residents from Blytheville area churches and organizations spent hundreds of dollars and hours of their time walking along I-55 bringing food and water to those stranded motorists.

SEARSPORT, ME (WCSH/CNN) – Record snowfall in New Jersey has left the stat desperate for salt to treat frozen roads.

There are mountains of salt sitting at three ports in Maine.

An archaic federal law is holding things up.

The Merchant Marine Act of 1920, known as the Jones Act, says only American ships can transport goods between ports in the U.S., but New Jersey doesn't have an American ship big enough to carry the 40,000 tons of salt from Maine.

Officials asked the Department of Homeland Security to waive the law for the trip, but a waiver has not been granted.

New Jersey is using a smaller barge that carries than 10,000 tons to bring the salt down from Maine.

A smaller shipment is expected to arrive Friday or Saturday.
