PEORIA, Ill. (AP) - Workers from Illinois American Water scrambled to fix a second break in a Peoria water main, hours after fixing a rupture that cut service to thousands.
The (Peoria) Journal Star reports (http://bit.ly/1eqt6fg ) the second break was much smaller, impacting only about 30 customers on Tuesday.
A utility spokeswoman says the water main is about 70 years old and has been put under stress because of the cold temperatures and the age of the pipe.
The initial break on Monday cut water to several thousand homes, businesses, schools and other facilities. Service has since been restored.
Customers affected by the second break are being told to boil their water as a precaution.
