Tonight, Todd Tumminia brings back his Heartland Heroes series. He talked to a Patterson man who has been inducted into the Marine Corps Hall of Fame. He is credited with saving the lives of 16 wounded men. Watch Heartland News at 10 to hear how he did it.

The Union County Sheriff's Office announced they are voluntarily complying with the same hands-free laws as civilians. While the law exempts on-duty law enforcement, the sheriff's office has begun installing hands-free units in all of the squad cars. Arnold Wyrick will have more on this tonight, on Heartland News at 9 and 10.

Howevery, if you drive to rural areas, you'll find out the roads in the country are still dangerous. Many county roads are still covered with ice and snow. Kadee Brosseau talked to a mother of a preschool student who is worried her daughter might fall behind.

A Carterville, Ill. learning center has kept their doors open through all the snow days so parents have a place to drop their kids off when they have to be at work. More than 50 percent of the students at Malone's Early Learning Center get picked up and dropped off with their transportation, which has caused some problems this winter.

Two Cairo, Ill. men face charges after a man was cut with a knife during an armed robbery Saturday night. Cairo Police Chief Kirk Snelson said it happened outside the Spirit House liquor store at 2401 Sycamore Street Saturday around 10:49 p.m.
