Governor Pat Quinn opened the Stan Musial Veterans Memorial Bridge on Saturday. The $695 million bridge provides a better and safer way for millions of drivers to cross the Mississippi River between Illinois and Missouri.

One northbound lane of Interstate 55 in New Madrid County was shutdown near the 39 mile marker Saturday afternoon. According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, a semi overturned early Saturday morning. Troopers weren't able to respond right away due to other slide-offs . When a trooper did arrive on scene and pulled over to help, they say a Chevy Avalanche rear-ended the patrol car. We'll have more on this tonight on Heartland News at 6.

Crews were on the scene of a house fire in New Madrid, Mo. According to the fire chief, the fire started at the house on Main Street just before 11:30 a.m. The homeowner said this is second time the house has caught fire. In 1998 lightning struck it, causing a fire.

A house in Doe Run, Mo. is also a total loss after three fires in one week. The Doe Run fire chief said they were called out to the home on Hawthorne Ridge on Monday. They put the fire out, but it rekindled later that night. On Wednesday, they were called to the say house because it was engulfed in flames again.

The death of a man at Quality Carriers in Calvert City, Ky. is believed to be accidental. According to the coroner, an autopsy performed Saturday showed Eric J. Young, 37, of Paducah, suffocated when the nitrogen tank he was in absorbed all the oxygen.

A western Kentucky town is preparing to bury a mother and eight of her children who died in a house fire in January. Members of the Watson family died when police say a combustible material fell against an electric heater in a bedroom on a sub-freezing night.
