Most schools across the country will have a new set of guidelines to follow in the new year. Common Core, as it's been called, sets benchmarks in English and Mathematics that should be met by the end of each grade level. Todd Tumminia went to a meeting in Sikeston where parents are learning more about this controversial change. Watch for more tonight on Heartland News at 10.

Police have a suspect in custody after three people were injured in a shooting in Piedmont. Three people were injured, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol. Mollie Lair was on the scene. You can click here for the story.

Two people were taken to the hospital after a fire in Clarkton, Mo., according to the Dunklin County Sheriff's Office. Clarkton police say fire crews and police responded to the fire. When they arrived, the home was filled with smoke and flames were showing. Kadee Brosseau talked to the teacher of one of the victims. You can click here for more on this story.

Two people are accused of robbing the SIU Credit Union on Monday. On Wednesday, Jonathon M. Whitehead of Carbondale was taken into custody in connection with the robbery. David E. White of Murphysboro had already been charged with financial institution robbery.

Authorities are looking for a missing 80-year-old man in Doe Run, Mo. Charles Reever, 80, is described as 5 feet, 9 inches, 150 pounds with brown eyes and balding gray hair. He was last seen at 8 a.m. on Wednesday driving a 2005 Gold Jeep Cherokee with plate number SB2-G41.
