LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) – A Louisville man will spend the rest of his life in prison after pleading guilty to the murders of his ex-girlfriend and her two young children.

The Jefferson County Commonwealth Attorney's Office said John Douglas Devine, Sr., 36, entered the pleas to the three counts of murder, one count of burglary and being a persistent felony offender during a court appearance on January 24.

Devine was arrested for the murders of Sade Goldsmith, 26, and the couple's two children, John D. Devine, Jr., age 6, and Jon Tee Devine, age 5. The three were found by Louisville Metro Police inside their home in the 6000 block of Maravian Drive on the morning of July 15, 2012. The officers were responding to a burglar alarm.

Police found Devine at the home suffering from a gunshot wound. Investigators said he tried to kill himself.

After pleading guilty Devine waived a separate sentencing date and was immediately sentenced by Judge Barry Willett to life without the possibility of parole.
