Now that we are past the holidays and have 2014 kicked off to a good start, we want to take a couple of moments and ask you for your help.
Over the last few weeks about 300 blood drives across 25 states were canceled due to snow and extreme cold. The loss of these drives has left a shortfall of almost 9,000 blood and platelet donations since the beginning of the year. Here in the Heartland severe winter weather forced the cancellation of nearly 30 Red Cross blood drives. This is a serious shortfall and we need your help.
This week KFVS12 continues a 19 year tradition by partnering with the American Red Cross to bring you the largest blood drive in the area, The Heartland Blood Drive. Please make time Thursday, Friday or Saturday to visit one of seven different locations across Missouri and Illinois, to give the gift of life.
Folks, the need for blood is constant. Every two seconds there is someone who needs it. The usual donation is one pint of blood, yet the average transfusion is more than three pints. And here is the most stunning statistic: 97 out of 100 people will need blood at some point in their lives, yet only five out of 100 folks who are eligible will take the time to give.
Your help is needed. If you cannot make this drive, please call 1-800-GIVE-LIFE to find a blood mobile or other drive in your area.
