Posted: Updated:
CHESTER, VA (WWBT) -

Police confirm two people are dead in what investigators believe was a murder-suicide in a Chester neighborhood.

A man and woman were found shot in a vehicle off the 12300 block of Mason Avenue late Sunday evening.

Chesterfield Police said two vehicles were involved in an accident and the two deceased were found in the vehicles. One of the vehicles involved in the incident is described as an SUV, found in a ditch off the side of the road.

The two victims are known to each other, and the initial investigation indicates the shooting to be a domestic-related murder-suicide, police said.

The identities are not being released until police are able to notify next of kin.

The initial 911 calls came in around 9:15 p.m. for a person shot. Neighbors said multiple shots could be heard at the time of the incident. Responding officers told neighbors to stay in their homes. Chesterfield Fire & EMS units responded to the scene to assist police.
