COPY-Sources: Investigators question person regarding fatal bank robbery, police shooting

(WMC-TV) - According to multiple law enforcement sources, tips have led investigators to the Chicago area where they are questioning a person in connection with the shooting of two Tupelo, Miss. police officers.

Tupelo police officer Gale Stauffer was shot and killed pursuing a bank robbery suspect. Joseph Maher, 27, was injured in the shooting. He was recently updated to stable condition after being sent to the hospital in critical.

A spokesperson for the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation would not confirm or deny the information as of Thursday evening, but the NBC affiliate in Chicago says an all-points bulletin was put out in the city.

While many wait for answers in the case, the fallen officer's family is trying to stay strong.

"I have my moments," said wife Beth Stauffer. "But, I'm at peace with Gale because I know he died doing something he loved. The way he was at work as a leader is what he was like at home."
