WASHINGTON (KFVS) - U.S. Senator Dick Durbin (D-IL) paid tribute on the Senate Floor Monday to former Du Quoin, Illinois Mayor John Rednour, who died on December 1.
Durbin praised Rednour in 2012 on the occasion of his retirement from City Hall, and to thanked him for his decades of public service.
"Today, I would like to take a moment to recall a different leader," said Durbin. "His name was not well known to many outside of southern Illinois, but he was a good man and a good friend who worked all his life to create opportunities and a sense of community for others. John Rednour achieved much good in his life – as a labor leader, businessman, mayor, husband and father, grandfather and great-grandfather. For decades, he was "the great nail" that held his community together and helped moved it forward. His contributions will enable his beloved Du Quoin to continue to reach for the stars for years to come."
Rednour was Mayor of Du Quoin for 23 years.
