PEMISCOT COUNTY, MO (KFVS) - Many roads are still covered Saturday and crews continue to work to dig out from the ice, sleet, and snow that pounded the Heartland Thursday and Friday.

Corporal Clark Parrott with the Missouri State Highway Patrol says troopers are working a lot of slide offs. He urges people to stay home unless it's an emergency to allow road crews to do their job.

One location particularly plagued with crashes is Interstate 55 between the 26 and 28 mile markers in the southbound lanes. Parrott says the highway patrol is working between six to seven crashes or slide offs in that area. Most are minor crashes. One crash involves two semi trucks with minor injuries.

Use caution on the roads and expect delays on I-55, especially as crews work to clean up wrecks.

The combination of snow and ice has made it more difficult for Missouri Department of Transportation crews to keep the roads clear. Drifting snow could be an issue in some locations. It would help crews if travelers could give them plenty of room to work on the road, according to a MoDOT spokesperson.
