Former Du Quoin mayor passes away

DU QUOIN, IL (KFVS) -

The former mayor of Du Quoin, John Rednour, Sr., passed away Sunday morning at 1:35 a.m. according to his son, John Rednour, Jr.

Rednour, Sr., 78, was President of Du Quoin State Bank.

He was first elected mayor in May of 1989 and retired in February 2013.

According to Perry County Judge James Campenella, Perry County, Illinois offices will be closed Wednesday from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. in honor of John Rednour, Sr.

"From when he stepped down in February, he was always, I always found him to be very approachable," said Du Quoin Mayor Rex Duncan. "We became very, I consider john to be a very good friend of mine, but always a terrific teacher and a terrific mentor and it's that relationship that I'll really miss."

Visitation: Tuesday, December 3 from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the First Baptist Church of Du Quoin Family Life Center. Visitation will also be from 9 a.m. until time of service on Wednesday.

Funeral: Wednesday, December 4 at 11 a.m. at the First Baptist Church of Du Quoin Family Life Center. Interment will be in the Sunset Memorial Park at Du Quoin.

Address for First Baptist Church is 104 North Washington Street, Du Quoin.
