Police investigate shooting in Cape Girardeau

CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) -

Cape Girardeau police are investigating a shooting that happened early Saturday evening on William Street near the Kentucky Fried Chicken restaurant.

One person was hurt and taken to Southeast Health, according to police.

According to Sgt. Jason Selzer of the Cape Girardeau Police Department, officers were called to the scene at around 4:53 p.m.  When they arrived, they learned the suspect had left the scene and the victim had been taken to a local hospital.

Right now, police believe the victim was inside a vehicle next to another vehicle that backed into the parking space nearby.  Sgt. Selzer says three shots were fired into the car, and one of the bullets hit the victim in the leg.  

Sgt. Selzer says the 20-year-old victim went to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.  Another female was in the vehicle with the victim, but she was not hurt.

Police believe all subject involved in the incident knew each other.  The investigation into the shooting is still underway.  If you have any information, you're asked to contact the Cape Girardeau Police Department.
