Teen injured in crash on I-64

WASHINGTON COUNTY, IL (KFVS) -

The Illinois State Police say a 19-year-old girl was seriously injured after a crash on westbound Interstate 64.

According to police, Zachary H. Gray, 22, of Lees Summit, Mo. was driving a black 2000 Volvo station wagon westbound on I-64 near mile post 52 when it left the road and hit a guardrail, impacting the passenger-side of the car.

Police say the car continued through the grass median, into the eastbound lanes. It then hit the north side concrete bridge rail, where it came to rest.

The passenger, Madeline A. Fowler, 19, of Overland Park, Kan., was seriously injured in the crash. She was taken to a Washington County hospital and then transferred to a St. Louis hospital by helicopter.

Gray was not injured. Police say he was issued a citation for improper lane usage.
