SIKESTON, MO (KFVS) - An Illinois-based company will expand to Sikeston and bring 25-150 new jobs.
The Lock Company will set up its manufacturing business at 835 Wakefield. The company makes locks for home doors.
The company's owner says they will be looking to fill 25 manufacturing jobs in about 30 to 60 days, once the building is ready.
Then, they'll look to fill office and sales jobs, and could reach up to 150 new jobs.
A second company is expected to join them in new building and bring an additional 10 to 15 jobs.
"I think it's a great thing, makes people's hearts glad, to know that our city is doing something to keep the families here are thriving, the families need to thrive if not people will start moving away to places that have more jobs," said Vergina Rodgers of Sikeston.
"I think for the people it gives them a sense of pride, to know that a company could have gone anywhere in the united states but they chose Sikeston, Missouri, to trust their business with," said Sikeston Mayor Pro Tem Maude Harris.
"Buildings deteriorate when they're sitting for so long, and when you get something good going in them, I think it's a good thing," said Rogers.
"Community wide I think everyone should be excited you know we're going to have 25 people who have a job, they're going to stimulate the economy at little bit, you know a win, win all the way around," said Harris. "You don't want to see an empty building; you want to see it used for something."
"Well I think it's a good thing, our community needs more jobs here in Sikeston, and I personally know a lot of people that are unemployed," said Rogers.
"The overall economy in Sikeston is pretty good in the fact that it's making it but it could improve," said Roger Strong with The Lock Company.
