Arrests made in 2 separate Kennett shootings

KENNETT, MO (KFVS) -

Kennett police have arrested two people in connection with a shooting on November 17.

According to police, they were dispatched around 10 p.m. to the South Vandeventer Apartments in the 200 block of South Vandeventer Street.

When police arrived, they say they spoke to Uzzi Caruthers of Kennett, who had a single gunshot wound.

Investigators began a search of the apartment area and found evidence believed to be related to the incident. Officers also found Ricky Hopper, Jr. of Kennett who was injured around the eye. Hopper told them he was assaulted by three unknown black males wearing masks, and said the males forced him and a second witness into an apartment where the assault took place.

Investigators recovered several items of evidence from the scene, including an undisclosed amount of marijuana.

Hopper was arrested for investigation of felon in possession of a firearm. Caruthers was arrested for investigation of attempted armed robbery. Both were taken to the Dunklin County Jail, awaiting formal charges from the Dunklin County Prosecutor Steve Sokoloff.

According to police, this incident comes on the heels of a shooting on Oct. 27 at the Eagles Club in Kennett. They say this incident supposedly started over a spilled drink during a party at the back of the club.

Police say Tracy Reed, 32, of Hayti, fired three shots inside the club, hitting 36-year-old Kenyatta Robinson. Robinson was later taken to a Memphis hospital and is still hospitalized.

Reed later turned himself in to authorities for the outstanding warrant for his arrest, related to the shooting.
