Murphysboro man convicted on gun charge

MURPHSYBORO, IL (KFVS) -

A Murphysboro man was convicted by a jury on Wednesday after being accused of firing a gun at a party in July.

According to the state's attorney, Ronald E. Sanders, 23, of Murphysboro, was facing charges of reckless discharge of a firearm.

He was found guilty after a two day jury trial.

Jackson was accused of pulling out a gun in the front yard of a home, and firing a shot in the air in the 400 block of E. Jackson St. at a party on July 31. This was close to two homes where people were standing and one block from Main St. in Carbondale.

Sanders told police he threw the gun into Crab Orchard Lake after getting a ride to Marion.

He is scheduled to be sentenced on Jan. 15, 2014 at 10 a.m. in Jackson County Circuit Court.
