(KFVS) - Flags flew high at the Mount City National Cemetery along Route 37 in Pulaski County on Monday.

The cemetery dates back to the Civil War era. Across its 14 acres, more than 8,000 military personnel are buried there. That number includes more than 2,700 unknown graves.

Patricia Sanders visits the cemetery quite often. She started visiting back in 2010 after she laid her fiance to rest. But she soon found a fondness for the site, not only because her loved one was buried there, but also because of the profound history. She's pulling double duty on Veterans Day, visiting her fiance's headstone, but also doing volunteer work for "Find a Grave" by taking pictures of headstones.

"People that aren't able to come to see their headstones, or relatives or friends, they can come on there (the website) and see them," Sanders said. "I had a young lady recently and make a request and tell me that she's never seen her father's headstone before. So, I got in the car and got down here and took it."

She's also proud to say, that young lady was very happy to get the picture.

During her nearly two years of picture taking, she's now up to almost 500. She says she receives emails all of the time thanking her for her time and commitment.
