Multiple vehicles involved in crash on Hwy. 60

SIKESTON, MO (KFVS) - A crash on Highway 60 near Sikeston Monday evening involved a tractor trailer and several other cars.

According to Corporal Richard Owens with the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the crash happened around 5:30 p.m. and traffic was at a stand-still for about five minutes.

"We had two vehicles that were traveling westbound on Highway 60," he said. "A car was pulling a small trailer, got rear-ended by another car, and both vehicles crossed the median into the eastbound lane. The trailer became detached from the car and it came to rest in the eastbound lane and about five or six other vehicles hit the trailer."

Owens said no one was seriously injured. Some people had minor injuries, but no one was taken to the hospital.

"Both east bound lanes of Hwy. 60 were at a stand still," Owens said.

He said is unknown why the vehicle rear ended the trailer. The trailer did have trailer lights.

"The first vehicle to hit the trailer after the initial crash was a tractor trailer," he said. "It came to a stop on the shoulder and the right fuel tank was punctured by the impact with the trailer. We have crews up there now that are taking care of the diesel spill."
