MARION, IL (KFVS) -

The Black Tiger Honor Guard showed veterans and their families the utmost respect during a commemoration ceremony at the Marion Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1301, on Veterans Day.

The group of men and women have all served in the Armed Forces. Now, those Veterans perform a silent ceremony set only to music to honor all veterans past and present.

"We are a group of Veterans who go together to honor our country, our military, our veterans, their families, the Gold Star families and the MIA/POW's," said Bob Murphy Illinois State Commander Black Tiger Honor Guard. "We never forget, we honor our own."

It's a ceremony that also honors veteran's children who have grown up without a father or mother who lost their lives on the battlefield.

It tugs at everybody's heart as the Soldier's Cross is being built.

"It's beyond amazing, that men like that take the time to do this type of program to honor us," said Gay Eisenhauer a Gold Star Mother. "When each of them have served and they deserve our honor."

For the men who hang the medals and salute their fellow soldiers who have fought before them, that is their honor, to honor fellow veterans.

"It means a lot to me," said Daniel Alderman a U.S. Army Veteran. "But at the same time when you join it's a brotherhood. Whether your old or new or have been there a long time, it's a brotherhood and you enjoy it. So, when I get older I'll pass my respects down to the next generation, just like they are doing us."

The Black Tiger Honor Guard was started in 1992 by SSGT R. Ben Dunham a U.S. Army Veteran and Vietnam Veteran. They are based out of Mattoon.

Dunham ended his military career as a Drill Sergeant for the 3rd Army.
