Good evening,

For our latest installment of Heartland Heroes, Todd Tumminia sat down and talked with a World War II POW. You don't want to miss Tim Mouser's story tonight, on Heartland News at 10.

The Black Tiger Honor Guard honored all veterans past and present today in Marion. They are a group of men and women who have all served in the armed forces. Now, they perform this silent ceremony set to music only to commemorate veterans and their families. Our very own veteran, Arnold Wyrick, was there today. You can watch the story tonight on Heartland News at 9 and 10.

Taking a few extra steps to honor his fellow veterans. That's the idea behind Ryan Mckennedy's 24-mile ruck march from Murphysboro to the Marion VFW. You can click here for the story.

Despite the chilly Monday morning, more than 100 people turned out to Veterans Memorial Plaza in Carbondale to honor our military. The VFW Post 2605 Color Guard opened the ceremony, followed by Commander Dick Kuehl's welcome. Then, the Color Guard were back up to raise the flag for the singing of the Star Spangled Banner by Laura Kucharik of Southern Illinois University of Carbondale. Rachel Gartner was at the ceremony. We put together a slideshow of veteran pictures viewers sent us. You can click here to see them. Send us your veteran pictures to cNews@kfvs12.com. Don't forget to include your name, where you're from and you veteran's name.
