POPLAR BLUFF, MO (KFVS) - An 89-year-old man says he was beaten and robbed in his home in Poplar Bluff.
On Friday, shortly after 10:30 p.m., the Poplar Bluff Police Department responded to the 2500 block of Bedoll Avenue to a robbery complaint.
Lloyd Surber, 89, told police that he was beaten and robbed by a white male suspect.
Surber said the white male knocked at his front door and claimed that his vehicle broke down. He asked to use Surber's phone to call for help.
Police say Surber invited the man into his home and allowed him to use the phone. After a brief conversation, the man attacked Surber, knocked him to the floor and took his wallet, according to police. The suspect then left the home.
The suspect was later identified Saturday as 41-year-old Billy Young.
He was taken into custody and charged with robbery 1st degree and assault 1st degree.
Young was booked into Butler County Jail on a $250,000 bond.
